Common Blackbird (Turdus merula)
The Common Blackbird is similar in size to the Song Thrush, and in color not unlike the Starling. We distinguish it from Starlings by its longer tail, even black coloration without spots (in males), and behavior that resembles other thrushes.
Adult males are completely black, with bright yellow bills and eye-rings. Young males (in their first winter) have darker bills that gradually lighten as winter progresses. Females are dark brown on top, slightly lighter with streaks underneath, and have gray throats.
Blackbirds are typically secretive, except for singing males in spring who perch prominently in treetops. We observe them either alone or in small groups.S to this text in the module Advanced settings.

Everything WE do makes a difference

Comparing 1984 Hosting with other web hosting services
We offer web hosting services that differ from larger providers like Hostinger and Bluehost in several ways. This comparison explains these differences and why they might matter to you.
Digital freedom since 2009
We’ve provided privacy-focused hosting since 2009. After listing 250+ reasons why customers choose us, we noticed something ironic: boasting about humility defeats its purpose.
Over 15 years, we’ve learned that digital privacy requires consistent work, not grand declarations. Our servers still run on Icelandic renewable energy. Our prices remain transparent. Our commitment to your data security continues without fanfare.
We’re still independent and still believe how you host your website matters. Just don’t ask about our humility—we’d hate to brag about it.
Why This Comparison Matters: The Case for 1984 Hosting
In today’s digital landscape, choosing the right web hosting provider is far more than a technical decision—it’s a statement of values. Our comprehensive comparison between 1984 Hosting and industry giants like Hostinger and Bluehost wasn’t created merely to list features and prices, but to illuminate a fundamental choice between different internet futures.
Beyond Surface-Level Comparisons
Most hosting comparisons focus exclusively on storage limits, uptime percentages, and promotional pricing. While these metrics matter, they fail to address the profound differences in philosophy and operation between providers. Our comparison delves deeper, examining the ethical foundations, environmental impact, and privacy commitments that define these companies.
The Stakes Are Real
When you choose a hosting provider, you’re not just renting server space—you’re choosing who holds your data, under which legal jurisdiction, and according to what values. With increasing digital surveillance, corporate data harvesting, and government demands for information, these considerations are no longer theoretical concerns but practical realities.
1984 Hosting stands apart precisely because it was founded to address these realities. Named after Orwell’s cautionary tale, it serves as a constant reminder of what happens when we become complacent about our freedoms. This isn’t marketing—it’s mission.
Environmental Responsibility Is Non-Negotiable
Our comparison highlights 1984 Hosting’s commitment to Free and Open Source Software—not as a cost-saving measure, but as an ethical stance. By using transparent, community-vetted software, they provide users with genuine control over their digital presence, free from proprietary lock-in or hidden backdoors.
Why This Visualization Matters
We’ve invested in creating this interactive, data-driven comparison because text alone cannot adequately convey the multidimensional differences between these providers. The charts, ratings, and color-coded indicators make abstract concepts immediately tangible, allowing users to see at a glance how these companies diverge in their approaches.
In a world of increasing digital homogenization, 1984 Hosting represents a deliberate alternative. This comparison exists to shine a light on that alternative—not just as a matter of technical features, but as a statement about what kind of internet we collectively want to build.

How we calculate our scores
Our ratings are calculated using a simple method anyone can understand. Imagine filling a glass with water – a full glass (10 points) means perfect service, while an empty glass (0 points) means terrible service.

Reading the Spider Chart
This special chart (called a “spider” or “radar” chart) shows how each hosting provider performs across seven important areas. Think of it like a spider web where each line going out from the center represents a different aspect of web hosting.
The colored shapes show each company’s scores. The further the colored shape stretches in any direction, the better that company is in that category. A perfect score would create a complete circle around the outside edge.
You can easily compare the different colored shapes to see which hosting provider is strongest in the areas that matter most to you. The bigger the colored area, the better the overall performance.
